Message No, you don't sounds stupid at all...good questions and I'll give you the answers. Most of it has been asked and revealed in the past but rather than search, I'll help ya out.

: I don't know a lot about the new engine going in to the Z. But I was pretty sure it wasn't an aluminum block. I know all the Z's in the past haven't been. And that was part of the reason why the new Z weighs so much. If the car is going to weigh 3400lbs, I would be VERY surprised that it has an aluminum block engine. Now if they do put an aluminum block, it would be so bad because that means it won't be such a fat sucker. And the lighter weight would offset the 20 less hp or whatever it ends up being. Also if they Skyline would be getting the VQ35 engine and it gets 300hp, how would the Z fall short? That doesn't make sense too me.

Yes, the new engine IS an all aluminum block. That's about the only thing everyone knows 100% sure. Nissan has no qualms about announcing that. And you're right, no Z's until now have been like that. The new Z is expected to weigh approximately 3,200lbs which is much lighter than the ZTT but is still a little heavier than what most wanted. The car will be faster than a stock TT which is GREAT, but will not have anywhere near the upgrade capabilities. This is good for Nissan and the mass market of car buyers, but bad for us modaholics and speed freaks. As for the Z falling short with the Skyline's 300hp, what part don't you understand? If you mean, how can they get 300 out of the Infiniti and not out of the Z, that has to do with how they choose to restrict the intake/exhaust. While they COULD get the same HP out of both, they'd most likely want a higher number on one of the cars to differentiate it slightly and to justify (in part) the price difference. Picture the LS1 engine in the Camaro and Corvette. Not the greatest example as one has much more power, but they are the same engine and Chevy just gave the Corvette some better exhaust and a different cam to boost it for the "better" car.

: I'm also confused about the supercharger not doing much. They already have one on the Frontier and I thought it made quite a bit of difference.

Sure, it did. But the way things are looking for the VQ35 in the new Z, it's going to be apples and oranges. It's not the same setup at all in the Frontier as it is in the Z.

: For the turbos not working on an aluminum block? Uhm I thought there were quite a few cars with turbos and aluminum block engines. I didn't quite understand.

Not many...and it's not a common practice. It's long been known that fully aluminum blocks are not "the best choice" when it comes to all out boosting a motor. Sure, they can take a few PSI or more PSI on a specially built engine with many modifications (Ligenfelter TT, etc). But for a mass production car like the current 300ZX to have a FULLY aluminum block and run these 17-25psi numbers that our guys run would be unheardof. Like I said, it's more possible with turbos than superchargers...but not likely and it's NOT just because it's aluminum as I posted.

: My suggestion to others. It's good an interesting to get cool information like this. But don't put too much in to these articles. I'm not saying Seedyrom isn't reliable or know what he's talking about. I'm just saying, this information is always chaning. So just take it with a grain of salt. I remember when the new Skyline was only going to be a GT-R and be a Nissan. It was going to be in the states when the new Z came out. But that doesn't seem to happen.

You're right. I've posted TONS of new Z information over the months and I'm pleased to say it's been more accurate than almost any other source. I have a connection that not many people have...hell, check out my website: I was at the secret Nissan only unveiling of the new Z at their headquarters (NOT the public/press one in Detroit). Also, the archives will show that I've been pretty dead on (rather, my source has) in the past. BUT, despite my credibility, things DO change...like we both said :)

So take it with a grain of salt, but also have faith that this is as accurate as it gets because this IS what Nissan is talking about this second. If it changes, it changes...but it's accurate to now :) Have you seen my post of changes on [ www.350zforum.com ] yet?

Take care!

: Just remember there has to be some truth in to some of these rumors floating around. Thanks Seedy for the new info!
